A carer is anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, substance misuse or a mental health need or an addiction cannot manage without their support. The carer strategy is a plan that includes things that we think should happen in Leicester to make life better for carers. The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR) carers strategy is due to be updated. It can be found on here. The original strategy was put together before COVID19. The past 18 months has therefore impacted on many things, and the LLR are looking at what needs to be updated to account for the needs of Leicester City carers. Re-visit of Leicester from Wednesday 5th May 2021 to Friday 7th May 2021. Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) will carry out jointly a re-visit of your local area following the previous inspection that took place between 30th April 2018 and 4th May 2018. The re-visit will evaluate how effectively leaders have addressed the areas of significant weaknesses detailed in the written statement of action (WSOA). Leicester City Council are holding a consultation on funding for Special Schools

Leicester City Council are proposing a change to funding in council-maintained special schools, as these have not been reviewed since 2014. The aim of the proposal is to ensure fair and equitable funding to meet pupil needs. The schools under review include: EllesmereKeyham LodgeMillgateNetherhallOaklandsWest Gate The Children’s Hospital School and Pupil Referral Units will not be included within this review due to the specialist nature of their provision. Ashfield academy pupils have a much wider range of needs therefore a single unit funding rate is not appropriate. £8.1m scheme to create hundreds of new SEND school places

Leicester City Council has announced that £8.1 million will be invested in scheme which will create hundreds of new school places and provisions for children with special educational needs. The proposals include: 3 of the Leicester Special Schools would provide extra facilitiesDesignated Specialist Provision (DSP) and Specialist Units would be created at 10 further schools across the city. Total of 228 permanent new school places would be provided for children with extra needs. Schools included are the Leicester Partnership School in Knighton (extra 40 places), Ellesmere College (extra 60-70 places) and Netherhall Special School (extra 30 places). They will all also receive various new or renovated facilities.
